Our business and our family support enhanced border security in the Big Bend region. However, a massive border wall that cuts off access to the Rio Grande for Americans, land owners, park visitors, and wildlife while causing incalculable ecological, cultural, and economic devastation is the least effective, most destructive, and most expensive option. 

All of the local residents, businesses, law enforcement, and county governments are united in opposition to a border wall in the Big Bend region. We have lived here 22 years and this is the first issue that has ever united the far right and the far left in this region. We all want a safe and secure border, but none of us believe that a wall is the best solution. A wall would devastate everything the locals and millions of visitors to the Big Bend love about this area, without achieving any meaningful reduction in illegal border crossings. Our local law enforcement and local border patrol agents agree that remote surveillance and tracking technology, coupled with more local border agents would be a much more effective deterrent and achieve a higher capture rate, with only a tiny fraction of the harm and expense.
